In the 18th district of Vienna, you can take a look into the future. There is a hype-modern city mansion fitted with some fascinating high-tech equipment.

The pioneering concept relates to the energy generation with which the villa is heated during the winter months and cooled during the summer months. Energy sources for the Variotherm surface heating systems are a heat pump with seven depth drillings of 100 metres each as well as solar collectors. Cooling is achieved via the depth drillings without having to resort to auxiliary power sources. Water is cooled with a heat exchanger and then pumped into the cooling surfaces.

In doing so, the owner’s requirements were met – low-temperature heating systems and climatisation during the summer months without using air conditioning.
